When J.D. (Zach Braff) accidentally gets stuck with a needle that may have been infected with hepatitis, he starts to shy away from dealing with his sicker patients. Meanwhile, he and Elliot (Sarah Chalke) are forced to deal with four doctors (guest stars Ed Begley, Jr., William Daniels, Stephen Furst and Eric Laneuville of "St. Elsewhere") who become ill while attending a local medical convention. Elsewhere, Turk (Donald Faison) pays a high price when he goes to Dr. Cox (John C. McGinley) to help him get in shape. Ken Jenkins and Judy Reyes also star.

Meanwhile, Dr. Kelso (Ken Jenkins) finds Dr. Cox's (John C. McGinley) Achilles heel when he fires the nurse who makes Cox's favorite cup of coffee. Judy Reyes also stars.

While Elliott (Sarah Chalke) and Turk's (Donald Faison) parents pay a visit to see them present at a medical conference, J.D.'s (Zach Braff) father Sam (guest star John Ritter, "Three's Company") makes a surprise visit, leaving all three interns in a state of emotional distress as old parental behaviors come into play. Meanwhile, Carla gets the biggest shock of them all when she discovers she is exactly like Turk's mother (guest star Hattie Winston). John C. McGinley and Ken Jenkins also star. Markie Post also guest stars as Elliott's mother, Lily.
